Summer Conference was a HUGE Success!
This year we had over 200 Louisiana Educators attend our professional development conference held in Baton Rouge from July 15-17. These educators had the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of professional development sessions, network, listen to superintendents and motivational speakers for inspiration, and participate in a gubernatorial candidate forum. As you are returning to school, invite a colleague to join A+PEL! You will earn $25 for each professional member that joins.Remember that secretaries, custodians, cafeteria workers, and other school staff can now join A+PEL as Associate Members. You will earn $20 for each associate member that joins. Please make sure your name is listed onthe “recruited by” line. Recruitment rebate checks will be mailed byDecember 1.
2015 Recruitment Contest

Louisiana Student Standards Review Portal
Remember that the LDOE has launched the Louisiana Student Standards Review Portal for feedback and input on ELA and Math Standards. Please participate and share how the standards have worked in your classrooms or if there is room for improvement! You can elect to comment on one standard, a few standards, or all of them. http://www.louisiana.statestandards.com/
The first meeting of the Louisiana Standards Review Committee and its three contentsubcommittees will meet on Wednesday, August 19 to begin the process of reviewing public comments and updating Louisiana's ELA and Math Standards. The meeting will be held at 9 a.m. at the Hilton Capitol Center, 201 Lafayette St., Baton Rouge, LA 70801.It will also be available via live stream on the LDOE's website.
Setting Student Learning Targets
The beginning of school brings along the task of setting your SLTs. Your SLTs establish a vision for what students should know or be able to do at the end of the year. Remember to take an active role in setting your targets. These will be the bar by which you are evaluated, so make your voice heard early in the process. Contact the state office if you need any assistance in this area.
